I feel like ascension is such a drastically more fun mode than spires it feels like it should be the default mode that is always open. Waiting for it to open at 5pm is pretty lame.

I feel like the opposite.
I started playing Arkheron Beta a while ago, where only Ascension was available, and in this Beta ive grown to like Spire more than Ascension, because its always PvP and no downtime for gathering all the stuff.
I prefer Spire.
The queue Split is likely there to reduce Queue times.
Ultimately we want to have both available at all times. Queues witching is a temporary closed beta necessity. Im excited for us to have both.
