Instead of it being based on the amount of items you unlock it should be based on the amount of pages you spend so that you could buy whatever you want and not have to unlock the cheapest things first just to unlock the prestige tiers, I.e. instead of it being 2, 5, and 10 items bought to unlock it could have been 1k pages, 3k pages, 5k pages
my only complaint about the rewards system is that the ones we actually get to keep past the test period seem less interesting imo compared to the rest of the unlockables. id rather keep the wave or an anchor than have the first few title or the banner and they arent bad but it’s not what I would have chosen if i get to choose an indiscriminate banner, title or skin is all. i also thought it feels like an uneven exchange for the things that are expensive because id think that it would be something where, instead of getting to unlock a spread of items that we may or may not like, anything that was over 5k pages would be permanently unlocked because that person clearly grinded out a lot of hours during the closed beta. i really like the idea of the amount of things you unlocked going towards a greater goal though so that was really neat
To provide some context, the current Book reward thresholds are intentionally set lower to make them easier to unlock during this test. Our current plan is for the final version of the Book progression to require completing the full collection in order to earn all of the Book rewards. As always, that’s subject to change as we continue testing and gathering feedback.
As for why Book rewards are tied to item unlocks rather than currency spent, we want players to focus on collecting the items they want instead of optimizing how they spend currency. Item-based progression is also much clearer, you simply track how many items you’ve unlocked rather than how much currency you’ve spent. It reinforces the idea that Book rewards represent completing a collection, not just spending pages, which better fits the fantasy and encourages collection completion. It also gives us more flexibility to evolve the game’s economy over time without impacting book progression as much.
Regarding not being able to keep the current collection items and only being able to retain the book rewards, this is temporary for this testing period. Our intent is for collection items to become permanently unlockable in a future iteration.
Once book progression is expanded to eventually match unlocking the full collection, we hope it will encourage players to choose which collection items they want to unlock first based on their own preference.
We’re still iterating on the cosmetics progression system, so feedback like this is valuable. Thanks for taking the time to write it up!
thanks dom (: i had seen what you said in the discord when you @'d this and this is a great explanation why the system is set up this way. its neat hearing more about the behind the scenes of why things are designed the way they are so thank you for taking the time to share (:
